    General Rules

    Double Reed Competition takes place on April 14. 2018 at Riga Secondary School No.6 situated on Aleksandra Caka Street 102 Riga, Latvia. The competition is open to young musicians of any nationality from 7 to 20 years (born after 14.04.1997) for Oboe and Bassoon performance.

    Competition Schedule

    Aim

    Provide young musicians with professional stage experience

    Contestants’ Groups

    Young musicians compete in two age groups:

    • Contestants in group A/Ob, A/Fg (to 14 years) are required to perform up to 6 minutes in total,
    • Contestants in group B/Ob, B/Fg (15-20 years) are required to perform up to 12 minutes in total.

    Repertoire

    Contestants are required to perform their programs by memory. Program time limits mean entire performance length, including breaks between the pieces. The contestant may choose the music and order of the pieces played. Contestants will not be permitted to make any repertoire changes after April 4th.

    Jury

    The Jury is composed of recognized experts in the disciplines of the competition. Participants will be evaluated on a 100 – point scale. Adjudication of participants' is only the Jury’s prerogative. Students of the Jurors are allowed to take part at the competition. Jurors may not vote for their own students. Judging criteria: degree of repertoire difficulty (in each group separately), technical quality of the performance, stylistic adequacy and text preciseness, clarity and diversity of musical expression, and artistic stage presentation. All decisions of the Jury are definitive and not subject to revision, or appeal.

    Participants will be provided with 1st, 2nd, 3rd Prize Winners’ Diplomas and Participants’ Diplomas, and Special Award  LINARDS CIRULIS.

    With signing the Application 2018, participant agrees to General Rules. The travel and accommodation expenses are to be paid by participants. Participant under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, a teacher, or other person over 18 years of age. Formal concert dress is required. The schedule, order of rehearsals and stage appearances will be notified by E-mail to contestants AND posted on the Web page http://rigapiano.info/en/rigapiano-express
